Artful celebrations: from museum visits to 100th birthdays and festive creations

Residents of The Ashton on the Plaza recently had the opportunity to visit the Kemper Museum of Contemporary Art to celebrate its 30th anniversary. As the first contemporary art museum in Missouri, the museum holds a special place in the local arts scene, and this milestone was a perfect occasion for the residents to explore its inspiring exhibits.

Activities Director Kayla captured beautiful moments of the residents during the visit, affectionately referring to them as “living art” to highlight the connection between the residents and the museum’s displays.

The outing was more than just a celebration of the museum’s anniversary—it served as a reminder that art is present in all aspects of life. Whether it’s in the brushstrokes on a canvas or in the unique and vibrant moments shared by the residents themselves, art surrounds us every day, in every person and every experience. The visit was a heartwarming reminder of the beauty that exists in both the world around us and the people we encounter.

100 years loved

Kathleen, a beloved resident of Independence Village of East Lansing, recently marked a truly special milestone—her 100th birthday!

To make the occasion even more memorable, the community planned a wonderful surprise for her. Residents, family, friends, and neighbors came together to collect over 100 birthday cards, many of which traveled from far and wide, including heartfelt messages from as far as Nebraska and Arizona.

When Kathleen received the cards, she was overwhelmed with joy and gratitude, remarking with a smile that it would take her several days to read through all the thoughtful greetings and well-wishes. It was a beautiful gesture that truly showcased the love and admiration Kathleen has earned from those around her.

The team at Independence Village of East Lansing did an incredible job organizing this heartwarming celebration, and we all wish Kathleen many more happy and healthy years ahead! Happy 100th birthday, Kathleen!

Creative spirit

Residents of Greenbriar Village’s Magnolia Trails have truly embraced the spirit of the holiday season with creativity and joy! This festive time of year has inspired a variety of fun and artistic activities, starting with a series of step-by-step drawing lessons. The residents enthusiastically participated in these sessions, crafting colorful and vibrant scarecrows and turkeys that reflected their individual personalities and artistic flair. Each creation was uniquely special, with residents adding their own personal touches, making the artwork not only a fun expression of the season but also a reflection of the community’s close-knit bonds.

To add to the holiday fun, the group also enjoyed a playful and lighthearted game called “Roll a Turkey,” where everyone took turns rolling dice to determine various features of a turkey drawing. The results were both hilarious and heartwarming, with residents laughing together at the quirky and unexpected designs that emerged. It was a delightful and amusing way to bring everyone together in the festive spirit.

This creative and laughter-filled time has been a wonderful way for the residents to celebrate the season, while also sparking their imaginations and fostering deeper connections with one another. It’s clear that, at Magnolia Trails, the holiday season is not just about decorations or festivities—it’s about creating lasting memories and sharing moments of joy with good friends.
