Families are a key—and often overlooked—part of the resident experience in memory care centers. In our Magnolia Trails communities, we make it a priority to provide ongoing collaboration, education and communication regarding your loved one’s care.
This is such an important key in memory care that we made it one of our 5 pillars of care that makes our program unique.
Navigating dementia together: Education and support for families
Dementia brings many challenges not only for the patient, but for the family. There is a considerable amount of grief that caregivers face on a day-to-day basis. The sure way to combat this loss is to provide education and assistance through the journey.
In many senior living communities, the only time a family hears from the team is when something terrible, like a fall, has happened to their loved one. We take a different approach. From pre-move-in to real-time photo and video shares via Facebook, our team keeps you connected with your loved one.
As one family member says, “The team provides peace of mind for me and my family that our loved one is being well cared for.”
Personalized memory care: Celebrating each resident’s life story
Magnolia Trails Directors are part of the move-in process, gathering information and getting to know the resident and family members before the resident moves into the community. Each resident has a Shadowbox outside their door with pictures of the resident in their teens, 20s or 30s. Knowing and displaying our residents’ histories encourages conversations among residents, loved ones and team members.
Empowering families with resources and engagement
Magnolia Trails provides ongoing resources to our families, including tool kits and guides to help better understand dementia and the care that is needed. We also share our programming calendars and monthly newsletter. Knowing about upcoming events ensures families can plan visits and join their loved one during meals, special events and activities.
Our directors provide continuous contact with families via face-to-face, phone, text and email. And our team regularly posts on Facebook to help keep our families feeling connected.
We believe our consistent communication with families makes a difference in your and your loved one’s dementia journey.
