My pops moved in a few months ago and the transition went smoothly.  He is a very independent person, and the Addison allows him to stay this way but with a little help from the friendly staff. My mother recently moved to The Addison and is thriving. The attention she receives and the endless activities have improved her confidence and well-being. Tasha, Jennifer, Robin, and Renee have all been very supportive. The staff is very friendly and know my mother by name.

Our experience with Addison of West Ashley began after a long hospital stay followed by an even longer rehabilitation stay, so this transition came at an already difficult and emotional time. Moving a loved one into assisted living under those circumstances is never easy, especially when there are cognitive concerns and a lot of adjustment involved.

From the start, Tasha in sales was professional, friendly, compassionate, and incredibly helpful throughout the process. After visiting several assisted living communities, I especially appreciated that this is a smaller, single-level community that feels more personal, along with how clean and well-kept it is. The outdoor spaces are a standout, with lovely courtyards that offer a peaceful setting. The activities director is also warm and engaging and clearly puts a great deal of effort into creating meaningful opportunities for the residents.

The front-facing staff have consistently been kind, welcoming, and attentive, which makes a real difference for both residents and their families. Communication was a bit challenging during the first couple of weeks, particularly with the wellness director at the time, who was difficult to reach. Since then, there has been a change, and the interim wellness director has been responsive and very helpful, which has been reassuring.

I have not personally tried the food, though I’ve heard mixed feedback. That said, I also understand that taste buds can change as we age, so that may be part of the experience. Maybe some improvement could be made.

Overall, this community has many positive qualities, especially in the people who interact most with residents and families on a daily basis. One area where there could be improvement is weekend staffing, as additional support during those times would be beneficial. It would also be helpful for all staff to wear clearly visible name badges at all times. As staffing becomes more consistent, a printed guide with staff photos and titles could also be a valuable resource for both residents and families.

No community will ever be a perfect fit. What matters most is safety, and I do believe The Addison of West Ashley provides a safe environment for my loved one. As a caregiver, you have to determine what setting best meets your loved one’s needs, stay engaged in their care plan and medications, and be prepared to advocate for them when necessary.

The Addison of West Ashley is hands down one of my favorite Assisted Living communities in Charleston for many reasons.   First, the building is uniquely designed and has a great location.  The residents are always participating in an activity or enjoying a performance and seem very happy.  The Sales Director, Tasha Williams, is passionate about seniors.  She has years of experience and the utmost professionalism and truly cares about her residents and their families. Tasha Williams at Addison West Ashley Retirement community is truly exceptional. She is classy, professional, and consistently goes above and beyond in everything she does. Her attention to detail is outstanding, and it’s clear she takes great pride in her work. Most importantly, Tasha has a genuine heart for elderly people. My aunt has been at The Addison (formerly Benton House) for 2 years.  When she first moved there she was in terrible health and in extremely low spirits.  Since she moved in her health has improved (thanks to conscientious caregivers) and her mood is always positive now.  As with most Alzheimer’s patients, she can be difficult to handle at times, but the staff members at The Addison are patient and caring. When we visit she is clean, well dressed and often giggling. On one of our last visits she kept repeating, “I’m so happy, happy, happy”. It was wonderful to hear and it made us giggle.

The facility is clean and has a very welcoming atmosphere. This facility is 180 degrees from the other two facilities at which my aunt lived.  I'm so happy, happy, happy she is at The Addison now.

I would highly recommend this facility… Clean? Comfortable and safe…I was pleasantly greeted and welcome in the most professional manner . They offered services allow no room for worry… they cover everything you would possibly need…I feel confident leaving spouse in their care.  The function of this facility is awsome!
