From Pumpkins to Pony Rides: Celebrating Dreams and Connections

Last week, Leroy, a resident of The Harrison in Indianapolis, Ind., fulfilled his Tree of Dreams by giving back to the local Indianapolis community.

As a young boy, he and his friends would steal pumpkins from their neighbors’ porches. Over the years, as he grew older, Leroy regretted his childhood mischief.

When asked how he’d spend his Tree of Dreams, he knew the perfect dream for the fall season. Leroy’s dream was to give back by donating pumpkins, so he dedicated a day to providing as many pumpkins as he could at “Leroy’s Farm” for the children in his local community.

Joined by his family and community team members, Leroy had a great day surrounded by pumpkins and new memories. What a wonderful way to give back!

Saddle Dreams

Virgie, a resident of The Waterford at Ironbridge in Springfield, Mo., has long dreamed of returning to horseback riding.

She often shared her fond memories of growing up with horses, which caught the attention of Activities Director Cheyenne.

From a horse-loving family herself, Cheyenne quickly sought help to make Virgie’s dream a reality.

“My family is made up of horse people from Marshfield, Missouri,” says Cheyenne. “We specialize in breeding, breaking, and training World Champion Missouri Fox Trotters. These horses are so well trained that they are particularly great with the handicapped, the elderly, and children.”

Virgie, who is 96 years old, mounted the horse with ease. Her inspirational act encouraged many other senior residents to do the same!

“Yeehaw, Virgie!” Cheyenne exclaims. “You’re an inspiration to those around you!”

Great job, team!

Chili cook-off

Greenbriar Village in Indianapolis, Ind., hosted its 3rd annual chili cook-off last week, featuring a range of delicious flavors from traditional to spicy.

Residents served as judges, savoring each entry amidst delightful aromas before crowning their winner. It was a tough choice, but well-deserved.

Congratulations to Sabrina for unseating two-time champion Anna with her winning chili! Thanks to everyone who participated and made the event a success. We’re looking forward to next year’s cook-off!
