Residents living with dementia often feel confused, irritated, overwhelmed or even scared. Because of this, a memory care community should have a unique setup that’s designed especially for people living with dementia.
Let’s explore how Sonida skillfully adapts environments to accommodate the needs of memory care residents within our Magnolia Trails program.
Building Magnolia Trails: a journey towards excellence
While the Magnolia Trails program, we understood the importance of creating physical spaces that feel fresh and familiar to ensure our residents are engaged, comfortable and calm. This is so vital that it is the second of five pillars that serve as the foundation of our Magnolia Trails program.
A resident family member said, “When I finally went to Greenbriar Village, I was met with smiling faces and warm, sensitive conversations about my mother-in-law. The building is gorgeous, both inside and out, and it is very inviting when you step through the doors.”
Creating a sense of purpose through Life Stations
In our Magnolia Trails communities, we incorporate key design principles while fulfilling a sense of purpose through what we call Life Stations. For example, our nursery stations offer residents a place where they can interact with dolls that look and feel real. Caring for a baby provides residents with a sense of purpose and independence.
Every Magnolia Trails neighborhood has a baby/nursery station and a pet station. Depending on space, communities may have an additional Life Station such as:
- Workbench
- Vanity
- Office
- Bus stop
- Gardening
- Spiritual
- Fishing
The team members at each Magnolia Trails community have done a beautiful job tailoring Life Stations to the interests and backgrounds of residents and bringing them to reality. They enjoy taking a concept and running with it to provide residents fun options to stay engaged.
Crafting joy and connection in senior living
In fact, one community created a chicken coop with real-looking chickens and eggs. It was a big hit for many of the residents.
Another well-loved Life Station is the Gardening Station. Here residents can enjoy nature and get their hands dirty without having to leave the safety of the community.
Life Stations help create the right environment—one of the many parts of Magnolia Trails’ dynamic programming that help make our residents feel as comfortable as possible.
